UCN Appoints Helga Bryant as Next Dean of Health

The Pas/Thompson, MB) – University College of the North (UCN) has appointed Ms. Helga Bryant, RN, BScN, MScA, as UCN’s next Dean of Health. Her appointment begins in May 2023.

Helga holds a M.Sc. in Administration (Health Care) from Central Michigan University and has been a Registered Nurse since 1974. 

Helga has lived and worked in northern Manitoba for more than a decade and comes to UCN with over two decades of executive leadership experience in Manitoba’s health system. Since 2011, she has served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Northern Health Region. Before her service in the Northern Health Region, Helga was the Executive Director and Registrar of the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba, a post she took up after nearly a decade of service as Vice-President and Chief Nursing Officer with the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, which was preceded by almost 30 years in Brandon in clinical roles and leadership roles.

“UCN is excited to bring Helga onto our team,” said Doug Lauvstad, UCN’s President and Vice-Chancellor. “Helga is well-known and respected in the region. UCN has a strong record of preparing healthcare professionals for northern communities, and she will help ensure UCN’s health programming continues developing and support the needs of the north.”

In addition to her leadership skills, Helga brings extensive knowledge to UCN of Manitoba’s health care system and, particularly, health care issues in northern Manitoba.
