Why did you choose UCN and the Kenanow program?

I originally went to school for my Social Work degree, but I decided to try teaching because I realized I wanted to be a teacher and work with students with exceptional needs. My mom is also a teacher, enjoys it and encouraged me to make the change!

I remember having a role model when I was going to school, and I want to be one for my students. I have a learning disability myself, so I think I can be that for students with exceptional needs and work with them.

Who has impacted your time at UCN?

My Kenanow Bachelor of Education Instructor, Amanda, has had a great influence on my education degree and time at UCN. I have learned so much from her. She is a great role model and the main influence on my education.

What has been your most memorable experience during your time at UCN?

My practicums and learning different teaching styles during my time at each school. My placements included physical education at Juniper, Pathways at RD Parker, Grade 8 at Riverside, and my current placement is at the IDEAL site at RD Parker.

What is the most important lesson you have learned during your time at UCN?

I have learned to be patient with the students and be there for them, listening to them and recognizing the importance of what they have to say.

What are you most proud of accomplishing during your time at UCN?

Graduating from this program. I will be proud of myself when I become an officially licensed teacher!

What’s next for you? Tell us about your future!

I have accepted a position that I really wanted, since starting this program! I will be the Pathways teacher at the high school!

What advice would you give someone starting out at UCN?

Just make sure if you are having difficulties with anything, make sure to talk to your instructors. Have a good communication system set up with them!

Message for family, friends, instructors and supporters.

I want to thank my instructors for helping and guiding me through my educational journey. I definitely want to thank my wife and family for all of the support!
