Duties

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Mihcet Meskanawah Teaching and Learning (MMTL), UCN requires an Instructor to implement the Pathway to Post-Secondary Education (PPSE) program. The Instructor applies a learner-centered approach to support students in their transition to post-secondary education and works as part of an instructional team to deliver courses, provide academic support, and introduce students to the culture of post-secondary education. The Instructor cultivates a learning environment that supports learners holistically and ensures that students are equipped to thrive at UCN.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor of Education Degree; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
• Experience teaching or working with adult and Indigenous individuals
• Experience working collaboratively as part of a team
• Ability to create a positive working and learning environment
• Understanding of cultural and language influences specific to adult learners in Northern communities
• Understanding of wrap-around supports to ensure student success
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Effective time management skills
• Commitment to supporting students attaining educational goals
• Commitment to life-long learning

Assets

• Masters Degree in related field
• Ability to speak an Indigenous language
• Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures

Conditions of Employment

• Candidates must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada
• Valid Class 5 drivers license as travel is required
• Required to work occasional evening and weekends
• College Instructors are required to complete the Teaching for Learning (TFL) in Applied Education program or have previously completed the Certificate in Adult Education (CAE)
