Associate Dean

Duties

Reporting to the Dean, MMTL and is responsible for the positive cultural, productive, effective academic work environment that facilitates high-quality academic programs and successful students. The Associate Dean is responsible for operational management of Mihcet Meskanawah programs and courses and does so through direction from the Dean. The Associate Dean operationalizes the strategic vision for teaching, learning and administrative functions of the ALC, Pathway to Post-Secondary Education (PPSE), Pathway to Health Care Programs (PHCP), and other MMTL course and programs. The incumbent is responsible for academic leadership, program planning and delivery, Indigegogy, human resource and financial management, department administration, relationship building with internal and external partners, promotion of faculty programs and initiatives, and leading organizational and academic change in support of the department strategic priorities.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Education or related field
• Leadership and management experience with ability to engage, inspire, and support staff toward achieving organizational goals
• Experience teaching in the provincial or federal school system
• Experience teaching research and/or scholarly activity with a strong commitment to service
• Experience working effectively with Indigenous peoples and northern residents
• Experience leading process/quality continuous improvement and providing solutions to challenges
• Ability to understand diversity, cultural influences, and issues specific to adult learners in Indigenous and northern communities
• Ability to create an organizational environment that fosters and supports innovation
• Knowledge of change management principles and experience in leading and managing change
• Excellent computer skills with proficiency in MS Office 365 and ability to use Zoom and/or Teams
• Experience working collaboratively with Indigenous Elders
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving and decision making skills
• Effective time management skills
• Commitment to life-long learning

Assets

• Experience with post-secondary transition programs, work readiness programming and program implementation
• Hold a Manitoba Teaching Certificate or equivalent from another comparable jurisdiction
• Ability to speak an Indigenous language
• Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures
