Why did you choose UCN?

I love children and like to make a positive impact on their lives. Besides, I noticed here in Thompson that parents struggle to find a suitable place where their children can thrive and learn in a fun, engaging way.

How have your professors and instructors impacted your time at UCN?

My instructors are very supportive, helpful and thoroughly knowledgeable in their field, and this has made my time at UCN worthwhile.  They impacted me with the wealth of experiences they had, even as former ECE educators. They also ensured we were exposed to professional development seminars, workshops, webinars, and other training courses that would help students understand how to build a holistic learning environment that supports children’s appropriate growth and development.

What was your most memorable experience during your time at UCN?

The practicality of the course when we’re allowed access to children through practicum and have hands-on training. Also, the land-based training and fund-raising exercises we did as a group were very memorable for me.

What is the most important lesson you learned during your time at UCN?

I learnt that children will always be children and they need to be helped to understand the world around them. Early years is the most crucial stage of a children’s life and whatever they are taught or exposed to at this time determines who they grow to become later in life; hence, this privilege or responsibility has been given to Early Childhood Educators to support young minds by taking care of their physical, cognitive, social/emotional, and language developmental skills in other to raise a child who grows/develops holistically.

What are you most proud of accomplishing during your time at UCN?

My understanding of child development was steady, stable and profound. This has helped me to see children in a new light of wanting to learn & explore, so any time I come in contact with a child, now I’ve learnt to position myself and be available to understand their needs and support them in any way possible.

What’s next for you? Tell us your hopes and plans for the future!

Oh, I’m so excited for the years ahead and what God will accomplish through me in the lives of children around me.

In the near future, my plan is to open up a daycare where children can thrive and learn in a safe environment while their parents embark on their daily pursuits.

What advice would you give someone just starting at UCN?

Wow! My advice is that it’s worth your time, money and effort to learn at UCN. Life’s circumstances might discourage you or cause setbacks, but if you’re focused and determined, you’ll achieve your goals.
