Leslie William James is a Paramedic Instructor and Academic Coordinator in the Faculty of Health at University College of the North. He teaches across the Primary Care Paramedic program and related certifications, with expertise in airway management, patient assessment, pharmacology, trauma, and prehospital emergency operations.
His professional background includes over 18 years of frontline service as a paramedic and 2 years as a regional supervisor and clinical educator. Leslie has extensive leadership experience in operations, investigations, and labour relations. Leslie’s instructional focus is on preparing students for both the technical and ethical dimensions of practice, fostering clinical competence, professional judgment, and resilience in high-pressure environments.
Research and instructional interests include:
- History and evolution of emergency medical services in Canada.
- Simulation and curriculum development (including EVOC training).
- Professionalism, equity, and accessibility in paramedic education.
- Integration of Indigenous perspectives and northern realities in EMS practice.
