Dr. Joseph Dele Atoyebi is an associate professor in the Faculty of Arts, Business, and Science at the University College of the North, The Pas campus, Manitoba, Canada. Dr. Atoyebi holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in linguistics from the University of Ilorin and the University of Ibadan, respectively. He conducted his doctoral research at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology and the Universität Leipzig, both located in Leipzig, Germany, under the supervision of world-renowned linguistic typologists Professor Bernard Comrie and Professor Dr. Martin Haspelmath, as well as the world-renowned linguist and Africanist Professor Emeritus Ekkehard Wolff.
Dr. Atoyebi is a co-researcher on the seven-year, multi-institutional, and multinational SSHRC-Canada-funded Partnership on University Plagiarism Project. He is an associate editor for The Quint, an interdisciplinary quarterly from the North and the faculty editor of Muses from the North, a journal for students at the University College of the North. Dr. Atoyebi is also an associate editor for the Journal of the Linguistic Association of Nigeria and an assistant editor for the Journal of Nigerian Languages Project. His areas of focus as a linguist include language documentation, descriptive linguistics, anthropological linguistics, and linguistic typology.
