Practical Nurse – Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) Accreditation Bureau (PN-CAB) Grants Accreditation to UCN Diploma in Practical Nursing Program

The Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) Accreditation Bureau (PN-CAB) granted accreditation to the University College of the North (UCN) Diploma in Practical Nursing (DPN) program.

CASN accreditation for the Practical Nursing program is significant for UCN and northern communities. Although CASN has been accrediting Bachelor of Nursing (BN) programs since 1987, UCN is one of the first Diploma in Practical Nursing (DPN) programs to receive national recognition through CASN.

CASN accreditation is a voluntary process that promotes program excellence by identifying strengths and opportunities for improvement. UCN received a seven-year program accreditation with recommendations for continued improvement.

The accreditation process ensures that the program is held to the same high standards as other major Canadian institutions. It reflects the accomplishments of the DPN faculty and students, who continue to prepare work-ready nurses that make a meaningful difference in their communities and in the lives of the people they serve.

The purpose of accreditation is to ensure that nursing education programs meet established quality standards. This supports the advancement of the practical nursing profession and enhances the overall quality of patient care.
