University College of the North (UCN) received a vehicle donation from Payworks, Johnston Group and Birchwood that will help students travelling to classes, programs and learning opportunities across northern Manitoba.

The donated Buick Enclave will support students attending the UCN Thompson campus who face long commutes from surrounding communities. It improves access to education and helps reduce transportation challenges that can affect student success.

“This donation represents a safe and accessible way for students to travel to their learning environment,” said Kimberley Laycock, Vice-President, Finance and Administration at UCN. “Reliable transportation is an important support for student success, particularly in northern and remote communities.”

The vehicle will be used to support student transportation needs and travel related to UCN programming throughout the region.

“At Johnston Group, we believe that where you live should not determine how far you can go,” said Ashlee Hodge, Director of Executive Operations, Culture and Community Engagement at Johnston Group. “We are proud to support students as they pursue their educational goals.”

“This initiative is about creating greater access to opportunity,” said Maureen Kinnear, Chief Technology Officer at Payworks. “By working together, we can help remove barriers and support students in reaching their full potential.”
