FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 22, 2025

(The Pas/Thompson, MB) – University College of the North (UCN) is expanding its Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) program with $459,000 in funding from Manitoba Advanced Education. This increases the total number of available seats to 32 with 16 in The Pas and 16 in Thompson.

This investment will support in-person instruction at both sites, ensuring students receive hands-on training that prepares them for careers in emergency medical services.

“Graduates from the Primary Care Paramedic program are vital links in the health care system,” said Cindy Woodson, UCN Dean of Health. “The expansion of paramedicine seats in Thompson reflects a strong commitment to training and education in the North. This funding is a critical step in addressing emergency response needs in the Thompson area, and we’re excited to welcome more students into the program.”

UCN’s Primary Care Paramedic program is uniquely structured to help students succeed. By the end of the two-year diploma, students will have fulfilled all prerequisites to be eligible to write the PCP national exam. Completing this exam grants licensure from the College of Paramedics of Manitoba to practice as a Primary Care Paramedic.
