UCN Mining Readiness Program

University College of the North (UCN) and NORCAT are partnering to offer the Mining Readiness Program. This comprehensive three-week course is designed to equip individuals with essential skills for the mining industry. This program combines hands-on training with virtual and augmented reality, emphasizing safety and practical experience. Ideal for those seeking entry-level mining employment and workplace readiness, participants will receive tuition and materials at no cost. Graduates will earn a joint UCN-Norcat certificate, recognized by the industry, along with credentials in Working at Heights, Elevated Work Platforms, and Forklift Operation.

Class 5 Adult Driver Training (Facebook Post (Landscape))

Apply NOW for Driver Training in Northern Manitoba

Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) and University College of the North (UCN) are partnering to launch a new program to increase access to driver training programming in northern Manitoba. The UCN Class 5 Adult Driver Training Program will help create safer roads and improve workforce development in this critical area of the province by bringing affordable and accessible training into communities across the region.

Indigenous and Northern Counseling Skills Certificate Program

Date: Classes will be held over Zoom.
January 7, 2025 – December 18, 2026, Tuesday & Thursday 6-9:30 pm
Student orientation is on January 2, 2025, at 6:00 pm.

The UCN Indigenous & Northern Counselling Skills program provides the
knowledge and skills required to deliver culturally proficient counselling for Indigenous and Northern
populations. All courses reflect Indigenous philosophy and culture, although elements of Western
counselling practice have been included where appropriate. This training program includes eleven
compulsory courses plus two elective courses, as well as a final practice placement.

Customized Training delivers existing and personalized programming to meet the needs of industry, business, government, and community organizations. Customized training programs are on a cost-recovery basis.

Customized training is a core service of the University College of the North. One of UCN's long-standing goals is to deliver education where people live. UCN works on an outreach basis to deliver training with courses and programs that meet each community/organization’s special needs. We offer training opportunities from regular certificate, diploma, and degree programs to customized training.

Intro to Northern Aviation Operations

Explore the Skies with Our "Intro to Northern Aviation Operations" Program!

 

Are you passionate about aviation and eager to learn about the unique challenges and opportunities in northern aviation? Join our "Intro to Northern Aviation Operations" program!

 

Program Description:

  • Duration:
    • 5 weeks in-class and hands-on training
    • 4 weeks of work experience
  • The program is a mix of classroom and experiential learning
  • Familiarization flights, Flight simulator experience
  • In-depth modules on northern aviation challenges.
  • Interactive workshops and practical training sessions.
  • Networking opportunities with industry experts and guest speakers.
  • No tuition is required; training materials are provided for accepted students.
  • Training and work placement wages to qualified candidates.
  • Accommodations support up to $1,700.00, and all lunches are provided.
  • Experienced program mentor to support student success.

Ideal Candidates:

  • Are interested in the exciting field of northern aviation.
  • Seeking entry-level employment opportunities.
  • Aspiring pilots, flight attendants, Aircraft Maintenance
  • Indigenous youth ages 18-29 will be given preference, but everyone is welcome to apply.

Outcomes:

  • Work Readiness Skills – potential employment offers
  • The program's graduates will be accredited with a joint UCN/MAC and WASCO certificate, which provides credentials recognized by the Aviation industry.
  • Achieve your Radio license from Transport Canada.
  • Students will gain transferable skills that are applicable across various sectors within Aviation and extend to industries beyond.

Online Safety Training

University College of the North (UCN), in partnership with BIS Training Solutions, now offers online open enrolment SAFETY TRAINING courses. We offer highly interactive courses that you can take entirely over the Internet. Our online courses are affordable, fun, fast, convenient, and geared just for you. Join us for these exciting safety training opportunities! 

Payment Information
There are two options to pay:

  1. CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS:  Select a course from the store link below, then click the "Add to Cart" button to begin the registration and payment process. Fill in the requested information and a link will be sent to your email to begin course.
  2. For all OTHER PAYMENT OPTIONS: Purchase Order, Authorization to Invoice, Training Authorization Notifications, Email [email protected] with your specific course request and a UCN representative will follow up with you during regular business hours Monday to Friday 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. CDT to finalize your registration and payment.  **Students will be requested to complete a UCN course registration form and provide payment details prior to the start of the course.

5% GST will be added to the price of all courses.

Please note that some courses may require additional practical evaluation on equipment to ensure regulatory compliance. It will be the student’s responsibility to register for a practical skills evaluation with a registered instructor once the online component is complete.
