UCN Launches Power Engineering Program

(The Pas/Thompson, MB) –University College of the North (UCN) launched its Power Engineering Class 5 program today, January 6, 2025. This evening program is at full capacity, with 25 students registered and taking classes. The program runs until April 2025.

“Power Engineers play a critical role in supporting our communities,” said Doug Lauvstad, UCN’s President. “The north has many passionate hockey and curling enthusiasts, as well as many other community and industrial facilities rely on the skills that Power Engineers bring to the table. This program helps to ensure that these facilities can keep running sustainably and safely.”

Power Engineering is a promising career in high demand, and an additional 65 students are on a waiting list for a future offering of the program. Students with a Class 5 Power Engineering designation have access to careers in arena operations, HVAC maintenance, and a variety of facilities maintenance opportunities.

University College of the North provides learning opportunities to northern communities while respecting diverse Indigenous and northern values.
