Introducing: Michel Leclaire
Years with UCN: 7 years
Job title: Natural Resources Management Technology Instructor
Location: The Pas
Michel has tracked caribou from helicopters, fished in the farthest reaches of the Arctic, and consulted on significant government projects. However, his favourite and most fulfilling job is teaching Natural Resource Management Technology at the University College of the North.
Michel’s journey to teaching and living in The Pas was not direct, but it was a necessary one. As a former UCN student and NRMT graduate who moved south to continue his education, Michel always wanted to return to The Pas. “It felt like all of my experiences were small steps that led me back to where I was meant to be.”
Michel’s passion for teaching comes from the joy of helping students achieve their goals, introducing them to unfamiliar environmental concepts, and witnessing the shift in perspective that comes with learning new knowledge. “Every day, I am able to go home and feel good about what I have done. It is incredibly rewarding to know that I am influencing the next generation,” he explains.
What Michel enjoys most about working at UCN is the friendly work environment, where collaboration and personal development are both encouraged and sought after. He credits the team he has worked with, both past and present, for shaping him into the quality instructor he is today!
