Duties

Reporting to the Dean, Faculty of Arts, Business and Science, the University Instructor is responsible for developing and delivering culturally relevant curriculum, evaluating student learning, and fostering an engaging, inclusive learning environment. The successful candidate will teach assigned courses using a variety of instructional methods, monitor and support student progress, develop and revise curriculum and learning resources, and contribute to student recruitment, program development, and University College initiatives. Additional responsibilities include participating on advisory committees, maintaining program resources and equipment, supporting work-integrated learning opportunities where applicable, participating in professional development, and promoting positive relationships with students, communities, and industry partners.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Aboriginal / Northern Studies; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
• Possess in depth knowledge of Indigenous issues in Manitoba, Canada and beyond, as well as TRC and UNDRIP
• Experience teaching Indigenous and Northern learners and/or in First Nations communities
• Excellent computer skills with proficiency in MS Office 365 with ability to use Zoom and/or Teams
• Ability to integrate Indigenous knowledge into curriculum and instruction
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong organizational, and time management skills
• Commitment to life-long learning

Assets

• PhD in a related discipline
• Experience conducting or participating in research and developing curriculum
• Experience teaching university level introductory Aboriginal and Northern Studies (ANS) to upper-level ANS courses
• Experience with Prior Learning Assessment (PLA)
• Ability to speak an Indigenous language
• Certificate in Adult Education or equivalent

Conditions of Employment

• Candidates must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada
• Valid Class 5 drivers license as travel is required
• Must be willing to complete Certificate in Adult Education or provide an equivalent from another institution
