Introducing Roots: A Youth Leadership Workshop
The University College of the North (UCN) is proud to announce the launch of Roots, a two-day youth leadership workshop for young people aged 13 to 15 from communities across northern Manitoba, taking place May 22–24, 2026. Roots will bring together youth to explore leadership through the pillars of wellness, culture, and action in a supportive, hands-on learning environment. Roots will focus on developing essential leadership and soft skills, including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and self-confidence.

Manitoba Aboriginal Languages Strategy (MALS) Symposium
May 27 & 28, 2026 in Thompson, MB
Join us for the Manitoba Aboriginal Languages Strategy (MALS) Annual Language Symposium proudly hosted by The University College of the North’s Indigenous Initiatives and Reconciliation division at the Thompson Regional Community Centre on May 27 & 28, 2026. At the Manitoba Aboriginal Languages Strategy (MALS) Symposium, language champions, educators, Elders, and community members gather for two days of dialogue, learning, and celebration. The gathering underscores a shared commitment: to carry Indigenous languages forward by grounding revitalization in both land-based practice and innovation.

Convocation
-> The Pas Convocation is on Friday, June 19, 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Roy H Johnston Arena
-> Thompson Convocation is on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 1:00 PM at the C.A. Nesbitt Arena

UCN Language Arts Festival
Dates: October 2026
Designed to inspire students in Grades 9–12, the festival will focus on this year’s theme: “Children and Youth Literature: More Than Bears and Bunnies,” featuring keynote presentations, interactive workshops, and opportunities for students to engage with established authors and share their own creative work.

UCN Partners with Manitoba Arts Network, Bringing Art on Campus
UCN is excited to announce its partnership with the Manitoba Arts Network (MAN). The partnership will showcase a series of travelling art exhibitions at the Thompson and The Pas Campuses. As a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting Manitoba’s diverse arts and cultural scene, MAN will collaborate with UCN over the next two years to bring a variety of art installations to UCN campuses.
The public is invited to visit campus and view the exhibitions available throughout 2023 – 2026.
